Why Project C?
The Governor’s Energy Office created the Project C campaign to help individuals, business owners and event planners measure, reduce, and offset their carbon emissions. In partnership with local governments and organizations around the state, Project C is helping Coloradans do their part to help with climate change. By donating to the Colorado Carbon Fund, you can reduce emissions by helping us support new clean energy projects here in our state.
The Colorado Carbon Fund, a voluntary carbon offset program, was developed by the Governor’s Energy Office (GEO) to advance the following objectives:
- Develop a funding source for community-based clean energy and climate mitigation projects in Colorado
- Provide high quality, credible offsets for individuals, businesses and government agencies interested in mitigating their carbon footprint
- Support Colorado’s Climate Action Plan
Why Carbon Offsets?
Carbon offsets are a part of a three-step process for consumers to engage in a sustainable energy lifestyle.
- Measure your emissions from energy use and travel.
- Reduce your emissions through energy efficiency and renewable energy.
- Offset unavoidable emissions through the Colorado Carbon Fund.
Carbon offsets help support new clean energy projects like:
- increasing energy efficiency in schools, buildings, or transportation
- Generating energy from renewable sources, like wind or solar
- Capturing methane from animal waste and using it to generate energy at farms
- Modifying a power plant or factory to use fuels that lower emissions
Why the Colorado Carbon Fund?
The Colorado Carbon Fund will only support new, verifiable, greenhouse gas reduction projects that are developed in Colorado. The GEO is partnering with The Climate Trust, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, to manage this program, so donations to the Colorado Carbon Fund are tax deductible.
Local Benefits
In developing this program, the GEO partners with:
- Communities interested in supporting local clean energy and climate mitigation projects
- Individuals and organizations interested in offsetting their environmental impacts
- Developers of emissions-reducing projects needing financial or community support
