Outreach and Education Projects

Outreach and Education

We know that education is the most effective way to sustain environmental change. That’s why we help high school and college students learn how to be more energy efficient. When you offset your carbon emissions through CCF your money directly supports three environmental education programs in the state.

The Denver Energy Challenge

This program offers ten high schools in Denver County the opportunity to create extra-curricular green clubs. With professional guidance from organizations like Xcel Energy, the Colorado Renewable Energy Society, and the Sierra Club, students learn more about how to connect with their community in eco-friendly ways.

Student Renter Energy Outreach ($CORE)

CU-Boulder is helping students score! By conducting home energy audits and environmental workshops, they teach students how to decrease their energy consumption and save on utility bills. Last year the program prevented 45 tons of CO2 from polluting the air we breathe. Here’s the most exciting part -- $CORE’s success has inspired other universities across Colorado to adopt similar environmental programs.

Testimonial:

“SCORE provides a wonderful educational experience and energy-efficient tools for renters. It also gives many students the opportunity to get their foot in the door of an expanding industry – energy efficiency. Because this program is offered off campus, it’s difficult for the Environmental Center to receive funding through Student Government. Therefore, it’s necessary for us to find outside resources to fund programs like SCORE.  Without CCF's support, it wouldn't be possible to provide this valuable outreach and education program for student renters.” - CU Environmental Center

CU Green Labs

CU-Boulder powers more than 400 high-performing research labs that consume up to 10 times more energy than classrooms. We know it’s possible to conduct quality research with less energy. That’s why CCF collaborates with CU-Boulder to reduce the carbon their labs emit. Through a program called Green Labs, eco teams ensure that the university purchases environmentally sound equipment, while encouraging students and faculty to follow rules that save water and decrease carbon emissions.

Testimonial:

“CU Green Labs gives graduate students a reason to reduce their energy use in labs. We've found that many of these students were looking for actions they could take, but really needed some guidance in how to implement their ideas. This program gives them that guidance and provides incentives for the whole lab to follow those actions.  CCF offers initial funding to get programs started and continues their financial support to ensure that we can offer these programs far into the future.” - CU Environmental Center
